As far as band names go, Deep Sea Arcade is one of the good ones. That being said, the collaboration of musicians Nic Mckenzie and Nick Weaver is so much more than a flashy name as heard in their stratospheric new single 'Learning To Fly'. Sounding like a bonus track from The Flaming Lips’ 2002 album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, the combination of phantom synths and earth-bound guitars creates an altogether incorporeal listening experience. If you’re going to take a four year break as this Sydney pair have done, then coming back with an instant anthem like 'Learning To Fly' is the only way to do it. This track is destined to spark some obsessive behaviour as the play button is clicked again and again. If the orchestra of astronauts doesn’t win you over, then the band’s superb motto “fuck ‘em, you’re learning to fly” surely will. - HT
